Here's something that every red-blooded American guy likes- A young woman who is very intelligent, an expert sharpshooter, and just happens to be drop-dead smokin' hot, too.
Her name is Kirsten Joy Weiss, and she's been around guns since she was a pup. She knows her ballistics, weaponry mechanics, and is a VERY impressive trick shot and competitive target shootist. She's both an NRA supporter, and supported by the NRA. Makes me even more proud to be a Life Member.
Enjoy this video of her expertise, and check out the 'yoga-contortionist' trick shot she does, among other feats. Oh, and check out her channel, too.
I may not be able to shoot nearly as accurately as Kirsten can, but ya know what? I can build the hell outta some wood and steel!
That in mind, I'm completing one of the highest quality custom rifles I've yet built, a WW2 Springfield Armory '03 with blued barrel and receiver, old-time Williams peep sight and original front sight, a hand polished bolt, and a completely custom American walnut stock- built to a whopping 15 1/2" length of pull.
I have kinda longer-than-average arms , so I finally built a stock to accommodate a knuckle-dragger of my particular proportions. I'll be doing full reassembly in a day or 2, and this one is to commemorate the passing of my two favorite people on Earth, who departed seven years ago this week.
The motif for this rifle is patterned right after those two wonderful folks- elegant, but not fancy or pretentious, time-proven, rugged, effective, and something you can depend on your whole life.
Rather than do any fancy checkering, carving, or embellishments, I just made a smooth, fluid-lined stock, and with only a recoil pad, foregrip tip, a grip cap, and 6061 aluminum trim plates- to keep it a simple and classic design.
The grain of this stock is really radiant and flowing, matching the contours amazingly well. I decided that only a clear, highly-polished finish would be suitable, so as to show off that grain.
I'll post pictures of it in the next Blog entry.
This one's for you, Jeaniebelle and Dapper Don.
